Our Story:In 2012, a fifth grade student at the outdoor school where I worked, taught me a song as we walked through the forest. The first line is: "Wood, Stone, Feather & Bone." I've been singing this song with children (and adults) outdoors ever since.
Inspired by the Tiny Trees Forest School model and values, Feather & Bone Playschool seeks to continue small scale, home based, nature infused childcare here in Homer. Nature and play cultivate a child's unique potential and sense of belonging. Feather & Bone was born out of a desire to create space to be our natural selves, honor our individuality and connect to the real world around us in a home-like, familiar environment. |

Who "We" Are:Mallory Primm, Founder/Care Provider
I hold a Masters in Education from UW, specializing in Play and Non-Formal Education and completed a Graduate Residency in Education, Environment and Community from IslandWood, a 250-acre outdoor school on the Salish Sea/Puget Sound. I am committed to honoring all learners and work to create space for every child to develop to their fullest potential, in their own time, in connection with nature and community. My work as the K-1 teacher for Tiny Trees: Homer's Forest School inspired me to open my own nature-based childcare program. I have taught in schools in Homer, Lake Tahoe, and Zambia. I have worked in outdoor youth programming for The Boys and Girls Club, Nature Nuts, Brightwater, Discovery Southeast, and the Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies. Sometimes I moonlight as a Naturalist Guide, in Denali National Park or Kachemak Bay. I've lived in Homer since 2017 and am an avid birder! |
